CultureCheck™ Assessment:
CultureCheck is a process through which the overall “health” of the organization is established.  Through both quantitative and qualitative methods of questioning based on the 9 levels of the Rising Sun Model, the fundamental challenges and strengths facing the organization will be assessed.  

Program Development
Two fundamental components of any residential program are the structures and systems that support and guide the day-to-day operations of the program.  Rising Sun offers support and development of these components in order that residential programs can be organized and prepared to best serve students/youth in achieving success.

  • Program Structure
    Rising Sun offers support in the creation and development of a residential program’s organizational structure.  This service, based on a comprehensive needs assessment, is designed to create a staffing model, organizational chart and extensive job descriptions that will position the residential program to serve students/youth toward success according to the organization’s mission and shared values.

  • Policies and Procedures
    Rising Sun offers support in the creation and development of a residential program’s policies and procedures for both students and staff.  This service, based on a comprehensive needs assessment, is designed to develop policies and procedures that provide clarity and support to the day-to-day operations of the residential program.
Staff Certification Programs
Rising Sun offers support in the development of a comprehensive certification program for residential staff.  This service is designed to develop a program that includes pre-service training schedule and modules (training provided to staff prior to them beginning their job), in-service training schedule and modules (training provided on an on-going basis), a written certification program and a train-the-trainer program. 
Staff Performance Appraisal System
It is critical within any organization that employees are provided meaningful and ongoing feedback regarding their performance.  Rising Sun offers support in the development of an appraisal system to provide residential staff with objective and genuine feedback concerning their performance in the organization.  Rising Sun develops appraisal systems that reflect the mission, shared values and goals of the organization so that as staff perform, they are moving the organization in the desired direction.

Executive Coaching
It is not uncommon to find leaders who are experts in their content areas. However, it is more difficult to find leaders who are competent in understanding both people and organizations. Rising Sun’s executive/management coaching services provide a mentoring and advisory platform to help residential leaders advance their leadership skills, as well as improve their management/supervision of key personnel.

Typically, Executive Coaching involves ongoing conversations between an individual leader and one of our senior consultants (either face-to-face or over the phone). These conversations normally focus on such issues as:

  • Personal Job Satisfaction and Engagement
  • Vision and Mission
  • Strategic Thinking
  • Goal Setting
  • Coaching and Supervising Others
  • Program Evaluation

As a result, by focusing on their own professional development, residential leaders are able to demonstrate a strong commitment to both their own personal and professional growth, as well as the well-being of the employees and youth they serve.

LeadershipSystems
Rising Sun’s proprietary LeadershipSystems™ program provides our clients with the knowledge and skills required to be effective organizational/community leaders.  Divided into three programs, LeadershipSystems™ targets three specific knowledge/skill sets based on the background and responsibilities of the audience:

  • LeadershipSystems™ I focuses on management skills for those responsible for handling activities, resources, and processes within their organization/community.  This program teaches participants foundational knowledge and skills such as: Servant Leadership, Understanding Others, Collaboration, Positive Inquiry, Effective Communication, and Motivating Others for Success.

  • LeadershipSystems™ II focuses on supervisory skills for those who have the responsibility of overseeing employees within their organization/community.  This level teaches crucial interpersonal and intrapersonal knowledge and skills such as: Culture Building, AAPIE (Assessment, Analysis, Plan, Implement, and Evaluate), Supervision, Developing Others, Team Building, Decision Making, and Effective Reward Systems.

  • LeadershipSystems™ III focuses on administrative/executive skills for those who have accountability over an entire department/division/organization/community.  This level teaches essential knowledge and skills such as: Strategic Thinking, Strategic Planning, Budget Development, Coaching & Mentoring, Change & Transition Management, and Accountability Systems.

Individual/Team Assessments
While certain individuals within a residential organization/community may stand out as exemplary, it is only through collaboration and teamwork that the organization/community can achieve their stated results and remain competitive in today’s market. Effective leaders need to discover their team's problem-solving, communication, and conflict management styles, as well as how to help their team work together to achieve extraordinary results. More and more residential leaders are beginning to realize the value of utilizing formal assessments, reports, and support tools to help their teams deal more effectively with clashes between co-workers, communication breakdowns, and power struggles with both adults and youth.
As part of our primary services, Rising Sun Consultants is “licensed” to offer the following on-line individual, group and organizational assessments:

  • Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)
  • Strong Interest Inventories
  • Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument (TKI)
  • Fundamental Interpersonal Relations Orientation-Behavior Assessment (FIRO-B)
  • California Psychological Inventories (CPI 260 & CPI 464)

As a result of participating in such assessments, team members learn how to improve their interpersonal effectiveness, minimize conflict, and support, challenge, and inspire their fellow team members. This in turn, can help lead to lasting change in the way teams communicate, learn, and work together. Thus, by actively developing both positive and high functioning workgroups and teams, residential leaders can reduce conflict, combat stress-related absenteeism, and boost employee morale/engagement.

CultureBuilding™ Program:
CultureBuilding provides a comprehensive approach to organizational development and change which focuses equally on both character and skills (i.e., values/attitude and behavior).  It consists of four specific programs.  These programs can be applied individually or as a complete series.  Each program includes four 2-4 hour sessions with up to 10 participants (typically members of your leadership and/or management team).  These programs are also available as Off-Site Retreats.

  • CultureBuilding™ I focuses on the philosophical orientation or foundation upon which the organization was built.  In this phase, we help our clients to explore: (1) what motivated the founders to create the organization in the first place, (2) what is at the heart of their organization, and (3) what their dreams are for the organization.  Through a series of working sessions, clients will articulate:
         • A set of Guiding Principles for their organization.
         • A set of Shared Values for their organization.
         • A Mission Statement for their organization.
         • A Vision Statement for their organization.
     
  • CultureBuilding™ II focuses on the process of strategic planning for the organization.  It is here that clients determine the overarching structure or design for their organization and how they plan or intend to align their values, assumptions, beliefs, and attitudes with the behavioral norms (behaviors, practices and choices) of their organizational culture.  As a result, clients will produce:
         • A Short-Term (Five-Year) Strategic Plan
         • A Long-Term (Ten-Year) Strategic Plan
     
  • CultureBuilding™ III focuses on the process of actual program development. At this point, Rising Sun Consultants helps clients focus on specific strategies, techniques, policies, procedures and timelines.  They are also asked to think about/determine their needs in terms of staffing, facilities, finances, etc.  As a result, clients will produce specific:
         • 1 Month Action Plan (including goals, objectives, and desired outcome or results).
         • 3 Month Action Plans (including goals, objectives, and desired outcome or results).
         • 6 Month Action Plans (including goals, objectives, and desired outcome or results).
         • 12 Month Action Plans (including goals, objectives, and desired outcome or results).
     
  • CultureBuilding™ IV focuses on the critical components of program evaluation and celebration.  It is at this point that clients are guided through a process of making a commitment to ongoing program evaluation and development.  As a result, clients will not only understand the value of both evaluation and celebration, but they will have developed detailed plans for both:
         • A Priori (Pre-Planned) Program Evaluations
         • Ongoing Community Building and Celebration
